Review: Skin & Lab Red Cream

Hello again gorgeous,

Back when I was still in Indonesia, I always skipped moisturizer because I thought it's too suffocating for my oily-acne-prone skin. I only wore light moisturizer like I reviewed here, otherwise I only wore serum, followed by sunscreen and it was alright.
Now I've been staying in the Netherlands for almost 4 months and I got a really bad breakouts. I know I've been through worse but this time the pimples are soo huge and deep inside the skin that I'm sure it'd leave ice-picked scars if I ever pop any of them. I also got lots of small bumps on my forehead (fungal acnes). And seriously, no matter how hard I tried to stay cool about it, it's really frustating and made me avoid any eye contact when I go out for groceries.

I tried lots of things, eliminating some skincare and got back to only using serum for my skin care like I did in Jakarta, cutting down dairy products and sugar intakes, wear no make up, get enough sleep, I even tried slathering my own breastmilk onto my skin as a facial mask (yes, that's how desperate I was), but I saw no improvement.

Until I got a package from Korea which contained moisturizer cream that I reviewed on my vlog here. I was hesitate to tried it since the moisturizer contains dimethicone and lots of heavy ingredients that I afraid will worsen my acne, but it wouldn't be nice to not try the product.. So there I was, trying the moisturizer for the last (which is third) step in my current skin care regime for 2 weeks straight. Surprisingly, my skin got better! No more new pimple, and the small bumps were reduced. My Lord, why didn't I realize before that my skin is dehydrated due to the cold and dry weather!? Moisturizer helps the skin to create barrier so it won't easily attacked by bacteria. Gosh! why I was being so skeptical *face palm*

So after 2 weeks has passed, I stopped using the moisturizer that I received for review purpose (it's good but I am just being cautious with an ingredients that I'm just not sure whether it's safe for a breastfeeding mom like me for a long-term use), and took a moisturizer from my stash. It's the same line with the serum I've been using for abt a year that I reviewed here: Skin&Lab Red Cream:

and here we go.. my Skin & Lab Red Cream review.

Official Description:
Source: Wishtrend
from CosDNA analysis, there is one low comedogenic ingredients: Butylene Glycol (rate 1)

Packaging: I own the old packaging, since I bought this from almost last year, it's quite similar with the new packaging, it only has font difference I think. The cream came with solid red color sturdy & thick plastic jar with white and red box.

it got a small transparent seal between the lid and the jar, a safety lid (but it sticks to the main lid all the time), and a small, transparent spatula to pick the cream and keep it hygiene.
When the product came, the cream was leaked through the cap, when I asked Althea, they said it was because of the air pressure on the plane when it was being shipped. So I don't know if it's travel friendly enough.

Scent: Skin & Lab Red Cream has strong rose scent, I like how it smell but dislike it at the same time bcs the product contains fragrance :(

Texture: Red Cream has pinkish-white with thick, heavy and sticky gel-like texture,

reminds me a bit of petroleum jelly -except this gel will mold back to its flat shape a while after I take some of the product.

Performance:
My first Impression: the cream is damn occlusive, heavy, sticky with greasy finish. Because of its texture, a little goes a long way. I only need this much to cover my entire face:

The first 2 weeks of using Red Cream, I paired it with the Red Serum, and it feels like the cream takes forever to absorb and left greasy film on my skin which will only diminish after a night sleep (maybe because it got swiped by my pillow lol). Then when I ran out of my Red Serum and tried the Red Cream on my bare skin, it can finally absorbed, still with quite some time of waiting.

I'm feeling like the Red Cream becomes a protective barrier to my skin and when I use it overnight, my skin feel so soft the next morning. My T-Zone is still oily though.

I've been using it for a month now and even though it didn't help to diminish fungal acne like this one did, it helps to protect my skin barrier and keeps my skin hydrated and moisturized. Now thank God, those filthy big deep zits were gone and hopefully will never come back. However, even though it claimed to brighten up the skin, I can't see it due I barely got sunshine, so I don't think my skin can get any brighter than it already is.. I noticed improvement with my acne scars though. but it works veeery slow (I know, it's Asian skin problem).

Even though the texture of Skin & Lab Red Cream is heavy and sticky, it doesn't clog my pores, neither irritate nor break me out. So I guess I'll be sticking with it for a while..

Here's how my skin looks after 1 month using Skin & Lab Red Cream:

Note: the big zit on my forehead was most likely the effect of turmeric & yogurt mask (I've tried it a few times and always got new pimples afterwards), while this means the Skin & Lab Red Cream is not the culprit, it doesn't help to heal existing acne either.

Pro(s):
+ Doesn't clog my pores, break me out, or irritate my skin
+ A little goes a long way
+ Doesn't contain dimethicone
+ Richly hydrating & moisturizing
+ Great barrier to protect my skin, esp in dry weather

Con(s):
- Takes forever to absorbs, thus creates a greasy film
- Very occlusive and feels heavy on my skin
- Contains fragrance
- Only available at some online shops

Verdict: If you have dry, sensitive, or even dehydrated-oily-acne-prone skin like me, Skin & Lab Red Cream is worth a try since it didn't clog my pores whatsoever, but using Red Cream alone doesn't help to heal existing or prevent future acne so it should be combined with another product if you suffer from acne. However, if you don't like to have greasy face or you wear make up daily, just use it for night time and get another gel moisturizer for day time.

Repurchase: Maybe, once I finished every moisturizer in my stash and if I don't find a better one until then.
